Kohout Nature Award 2022
2022 CACCA Kohout Outstanding Nature Photographer Award
Presentation
Good afternoon. It's my privilege and pleasure to announce the winner of
this year's Kohout Outstanding Nature Photographer Award.
This award is given to an individual who best exemplifies the spirit and
efforts of John, APSA, and Kitty Kohout in nature photography. An interest in
nature that goes beyond merely taking photographs is required, and
photographic accomplishment alone is not sufficient to qualify. The
importance of preservation and respect for nature and promotion of nature
and nature photography by teaching programs, etc., must be port of the
person's attitude in his or her photographic endeavors
The recipient of the2022 Kohout Outstanding Nature Photographer Award
is...
... a person who, while loving nature and photographing many kinds of
subjects within our natural world, may be rightly and respectfully described
as being a bird whisperer.
This person has developed a reputation for specializing in finding, observing
and photographing wild members of a class of rather secretive, elusive
raptors. I won't name this group of bird species. Let's just say the bird is a
real head-turner ... and this individual very much gives a hoot about them.
This person studies his subjects and their habitats and practices skill, care
and respect for their well-being in photographing them in order not to stress
them or disturb their environments.
She, or he, has won numerous photo awards at CACCA and local camera
clubs for nature images, notably including large color avian prints.
Recognized for their visual and potential educational value, this person's
photography has appeared in the Chicago Tribune and local suburban
newspapers as part of nature-related feature articles.
She or he has established a nature photography website replete with high
quality images of raptors, dragonflies, spiders, and many other nature
subjects.
This individual freely and eagerly gives of their time and effort to help fellow
photographers, sharing extensive photographic. knowledge while always
being mindful and emphasizing respect for the animals' safety and welfare.
Towards this end, he or she has given nature photography presentations at
CACCA and many local camera clubs as well as environmental organizations
such as the Chicago Audubon Society.
This person has led nature photography field trips, inviting and mentoring
like-minded photographers to join him on outings to prime birding sites,
always being selective and cautious that his photography companions share
his or her love, care and respect for nature and the specimens they're
photographing.
He or she will ask you if you know the answer to the question "Why Am I
Always Looking Up?" This individual will happily tell you why. And with they're
exemplary photography and strong drive to observe and preserve nature,
this individual will inspire you to always look up, too.
ln view of all the above, this person clearly fulfills the standards for this
award, and has earned and is deserving of this honor.
The 2022 Kohout Nature Photographer's Award goes to ... Arnold Koenig.
Congratulations!
